Tree removal for big trees across Tasman District

Gums, pines and oaks that have outgrown the section, dead or leaning trees, and trees that sit too close to the house. Oliver comes out and quotes; he and the team take the tree down, chip it on site and clear up.

How a big tree comes down

Most big trees in Tasman gardens don’t have room to fall. They are climbed and taken down from the top in sections, each piece cut and lowered on a rope so it lands where the team wants it, clear of roofs, fences and gardens. Where there is open ground, a tree can come down in one piece.

Either way the work zone is taped off first, and the branches go through the chipper on site. Oliver learned this on Australia’s big eucalypts, taking down tall gums over houses and streets week after week.

The trees we take down

  • Gums and pines that have outgrown a home section
  • Big oaks and other broadleaf trees
  • Dead trees, and trees left leaning after a storm
  • Trees too close to the house, the roof or the driveway
  • Big trees on lifestyle blocks and orchard properties

Local work includes a tree taken out in Richmond in October 2026.

Safe work, and a clean section after

Oli was very professional and safety conscious, very accommodating and friendly. More importantly he did a great job, no mucking around. Definitely would recommend

Urban Forest did a great job in our garden. We weren't sure what to do with our trees but Oliver explained things really well and helped us find a solution. He then did a great job and cleared everything up as if he had never been there. I will definitely have them back in the future.

What sets the price

  • How tall the tree is, and how far it spreads
  • What is under it: a roof, fence, glasshouse or the neighbour’s yard
  • The way in for gear: gate width, side path, slope or a steep drive
  • Whether it can be dropped in one piece or comes down in sections
  • What happens to the wood and chip
  • Whether the stump is ground out as well

Questions

Another question? Call 0800 001 224 or send it with your quote.

Can a tall gum next to the house come down safely?

Yes. It is climbed and taken down from the top in sections, each piece lowered on a rope clear of the roof. Big eucalypts are what Oliver worked on for years in Australia.

Does a tree need council approval to come out?

Some big trees in Tasman District are on the council’s protected-tree list, Schedule 16.13B of the Tasman Resource Management Plan, and those need the council’s approval first. Tell Oliver if you think yours might be one.

What happens to the wood?

The branches are chipped on site. Say if you would like the trunk left in rounds for firewood or the chip kept for the garden.
