Trees and holiday homes in Kaiteriteri
It is a holiday village, with water taxis and kayak trips leaving for the Abel Tasman coast, close to Mārahau, the national park’s main gateway. Since 25 August 2026 its official name has been Kaiteretere, under the Te Here ā Nuku (Nelson Tenths) Act 2026, though most maps and searches still say Kaiteriteri.
Most of the village’s homes are holiday homes, empty for much of the year. Most of the houses were built in the 2000s, with some lifestyle blocks behind the village.
Two of the area’s listed trees are on the roads in: a pōhutukawa in the road reserve on Kaiteriteri–Sandy Bay Road and two English oaks on Riwaka–Kaiteriteri Road. When ex-cyclone Gita came through in February 2018, fallen trees, slips and flooding closed SH60 at the turn-off.

Before you send a Kaiteriteri job
- If it is a holiday home, say who can open the gate or meet on site, and send photos from the street and from the section.
- Trees in the road reserve, like the listed pōhutukawa on Kaiteriteri–Sandy Bay Road, are on the council schedule. Check the boundary before planning work near the road.
- If your dates are flexible, say so. It lets the work be planned around the busiest summer weeks.
