Richmond arborist for tree removal and big trees

Richmond is Tasman District’s biggest town and still growing, with whole new streets in Richmond West and big old oaks and gums in the older parts of town. Oliver comes out, looks the tree over and quotes, then he and the team take it down or cut it back.

Trees and sections in Richmond

Richmond sits on the Waimea Inlet where State Highways 6 and 60 meet, and it is the seat of Tasman District Council. It has grown by about a fifth in five years. Richmond West alone has gone from a few hundred homes to more than 1,500, and building is still going on.

The older streets hold some very big trees. The council’s protected-tree list, Schedule 16.13B of the Tasman Resource Management Plan, includes a Category A blue gum at Holy Trinity Church on Dorset Street, whole plantings of English oaks on Lower Queen Street and Angelus Avenue, and a Category A mountain ash in the Reservoir Creek forestry area above town. Big gums and oaks are the trees Oliver knows best: he spent about seven years on Australia’s eucalypts.

Heavy weather tests the bigger trees here. In April 2013, 216 mm of rain fell on Richmond in a single day, and storms here have brought down even protected trees. Richmond is also where the team took out a tree in October 2026.

Before you send a Richmond job

  1. Look your address up in Schedule 16.13B before a big old tree comes out. Richmond’s entries run street by street, from the Lower Queen Street oaks to single trees on Dorset Street, Surrey Road and Wensley Road.
  2. On the newer Richmond West sections, measure the narrowest gap down the side of the house and mention any shared driveway. It tells the team whether the gear goes through or the wood is carried out.
  3. If the section backs onto the hills above town, check the trees on the slope after very heavy rain for a new lean or lifted roots, and send a photo.

What people say about Oliver and the team

Oli was very professional and safety conscious, very accommodating and friendly. More importantly he did a great job, no mucking around. Definitely would recommend

Urban Forest did a great job in our garden. We weren't sure what to do with our trees but Oliver explained things really well and helped us find a solution. He then did a great job and cleared everything up as if he had never been there. I will definitely have them back in the future.
